Is your wedding pinterest board full of those epic, flowy veil shots? You may think just checking “Veil” off your wedding to-do list will suffice, but we are here to let you know ahead of time that not all veils flow the same! Capturing these moments can be easier than it looks if you follow these important tips when choosing the right veil.

1. Avoid Heavy Beading.

The trick to getting those magical wind in the veil shots is:

1. Having a bridesmaid or assistant lightly toss the veil outside of the shot. But most importantly..

2. In order for that to work best, the veil must be lightweight! Any heavy beading will weigh the veil down immediately.

Tip: If you just cannot part with your glitzy veil, you can always order a veil specifically for the photos. Just make sure it’s simple and lightweight.

2. Fine Tulle Flows Best.

A stiffer fabric veil will also not flow pretty. Make sure you choose a curved veil to get that windswept look. You can even practice before your big day. Hold your veil in the wind, throw it up, judge for yourself how it looks. Does it just look like a stiff piece of paper or is it flowing like water?

Bonus Tip: Opt for a veil with one layer. The more layers, the harder it will be to toss.

3. Length Is Vital.

Now obviously, you can’t get these epic shots with just a birdcage or shoulder length veil (especially if you want to fit two people under it). The longer the veil, the more epic the shot is. We recommend any veil starting at Waltz Length (60”), but a Cathedral Length Veil (108-120”) will be best!
