What is a swatch?
Swatch is a textile/fabric sample designed to represent a larger piece. Like interior designer choosing the paint for the room, the curtains, and other furniture colors. Swatches help us visualizing the overall design by letting us compare and combine the colors in the fastest and easiest way.
Why do we need swatches?
For wedding dress and bridesmaid dress in particular, there are a few reasons why it is a good idea to order swatches.
First, screen resolution variations. Yep, it’s 2020, and online shopping is a trend for all types of products, including a wedding dress and bridesmaid dress. With an easy click, the product is delivered to your door. Quick and easy. Why not? However, there are some inevitable problems with online shopping. For example, you are not sure if the product looks the same in person from the picture. The color might be slightly different when you browse the website with your phone and your laptop. My best friend is always joking that online shopping can be a game of guessing and buying “mystery boxes.” Although many stores have a very friendly return policy, most of the shipping costs are not refundable. This is when ordering swatches can be very helpful. A swatch allows you to see the colors in person. So you are no longer guessing the mystery colors!
Second, fabric quality. Okay… other than colors, one of the biggest headaches of online shopping is that you cannot touch the product. I don’t know about you, but I would like to touch and feel the product quality before I buy something, especially clothing. There is one time I bought a T-shirt online, and my skin felt so itching just by touching it. Definitely a nightmare to every online shopper. A swatch allows me to touch the fabric before I commit and buy something. Hurray to people who invent swatches!
Third, the wedding color palette. It is important to prepare a wedding color palette if you want to keep consistency throughout your wedding event; Small things like dishware, floral, invitation, and thank-you notes; big things like linens, decorations, and rentals. Having a wedding color palette could provide some directions and boundaries for vendors and wedding planners to create and plan a wedding within couples’ vision. So what is a wedding color palette anyways? It is as simple as having multiple swatches with different colors to play color combinations.
Summary:
⭐️Swatch is a fabric sample to show and represent a wedding/bridesmaid dress.
