Have you heard about engagement sessions? If not, that's fine, because we will go over that today! An engagement session is one of the best opportunities for you to get to know the photographer and get comfortable in front of the camera. The pictures could be used on the ‘save-the-date’ card, the wedding website, and the photo albums on the reception table. Not to mention, even hang them on the wall to cherish over the years.
Here’s a guide on what to wear for engagement photo shoots:
1. You do you
You should wear whatever makes you feel you. Fully glam or casual vibe, it’s your call. If you love to wear T-shirts and jeans, just go for it.
Q: Do I have to wear a wedding dress for my engagement shoot? Absolutely no! You choose whatever fits your personality. Many brides-to-be choose to wear bridesmaid dress instead. Afarose’s chiffon bridesmaids dress is very popular as an engagement shoot outfit! It’s lightweight and comfortable for any outdoor shooting. Plus, a $68 bridesmaids dress is a steal that you can’t say no!
Key: You should look like yourself, but at your best.
2. Colors
Bright colors are very eye-catchy. But it may mislead the focus of the photos to the dress. Natural, pastels or any low saturation colors are great. You and your partner’s face will stand out more with these colors.
You may also want to consider what color compliments your skin tone more. Light skin in a shite dress could be washed out in the photo. It will look even worse if your shoot time is during sunset, it will even look even more washed out. *Really take our word for that
Key: Get inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest to see how your fav colors work in different camera settings
3. Complement season and location
Take advantage of the season you’re in and style it with some seasonal add-ons.
Spring and summer: floral prints and pastel hues Winter and fall: faux fur wrap or fleece jacket
For wraps to wear during the winter and fall season, Afarose has got you covered with some luxurious faux wraps and jackets to pair with.
4. Complement each other
Matching outfits might be a little too much. But complementing colors and prints will ace your engagement shoot. For instance, find complimentary colors that both of you are comfortable wearing. If both of you like neutrals, pair up dark blue with light grey or pink. Another option for you is to wear a floral print outfit and have your partner wear a neutral outfit to have a pop-out but still balanced look.
5. Class>trendy
These photographs are going to last forever, and if you want to make sure you will still go “Aww, I love it” in 20 years, a classic and timeless look will be a better option!
If you want to wear a white dress but not a big puffy gown. You are in the right place! Afarose’s wedding collection under $400 is light, airy, and flowy. Don’t take our words. Try on and experience it yourself and look how amazing our bride is glowing in our Hana dress!
6. At least one statement accessory
Hat, scarf, statement earring or necklace, etc. You will be surprised how the photos turn out with all these small add ons.
7. Maximum two outfits
A professional photoshoot with your partner sounds super exciting, I know! But don’t turn it into a fashion show.
In the end, the photographs are meant to remember a good time that you had in the moment. And 2 outfits are more than enough!
Key: Put the focus on you two instead of the clothing. For variety, choose one casual and more formal outfit!
8. Don’t forget your shoes (it will show, believe me!)
You might think your floor-length flowy dress covers everything. But the truth is, that your photographer might ask your partner to carry you in his/her arms. Or maybe a flying dress that reveals whatever you wear under. We don’t want you to see those photobombs when you receive your photo gallery from your photographer.
Key: If you are shooting in the mountains or anywhere that is not ideal to wear your planned shoes, bring two shoes with you! Bring 1 walking shoe and carry the heel/flat that you intend to wear.
Are you planning to do an engagement shoot soon! If yes, save this post for reference for any guidance!
