Congratulations on saying 'yes' to being a bridesmaid! Agreeing to stand next to the bride on her big day is such a special experience. Your journey into the world of wedding preparations has just begun, and it's time to embrace your role with enthusiasm and grace. Here's a simple guide on what to do after accepting the honor of being a bridesmaid.

1. Celebrate the Moment:

Take a moment to celebrate the excitement of being chosen as a bridesmaid! Whether it's a quiet toast or a small get-together with the bride, relish this special moment. The bride wants you to share her WEDDING DAY with her. This is a big deal, and deserves a moment of appreciation and love. It's always fun to snap a pic of the cute “ask” for social media. Let the wedding content begin.

2. Connect with the Bride:

Initiate a conversation with the bride to understand her vision for the wedding. Discuss the color scheme, theme, and any specific preferences she might have for the bridesmaid dresses. Does she want satin or chiffon dresses?  Floor length or midi? Does she have a mood board?

3. Mark Important Dates:

Be sure to note down key dates such as the wedding day, rehearsal dinner, bridal shower, bachelorette party, and dress fittings. This will help you plan and organize your schedule accordingly. We suggest ordering your bridesmaid dress at least 2-3 months in advance to ensure a timely delivery. The last thing you want is a dress to arrive AFTER the day of.

4. Financial Planning:

Understand the financial responsibilities associated with being a bridesmaid. Factor in costs for the dress, accessories, travel, and accommodations for any pre-wedding events. Hopefully your relationship with the bride has open communication to discuss these important topics. It is exciting to be a bridesmaid, but don't go into it blind and get surprised by the costs. While the average bridesmaid dress in 2024 is $140, you can browse Afarose's adorable AND affordable bridesmaid dresses under $100. (With free custom sizing.)

5. Dress Shopping:

Now comes our FAVORITE part of this process.  Bridesmaid dress shopping! Each bride is different when it comes to her bridal party. Some brides may be very specific on your dress, other brides may just tell you to stick to a specific color, and occasionally a very go-with-the-flow bride will give you completely free reign. Whatever your situation may be, stay open to trying on different styles, and ensure you choose a dress that aligns with the bride's vision while also making you feel comfortable and confident. Afarose has an amazing Try At Home program where you may pick out dresses to try on in the comfort of your own home for $10 each. Click here to get started!
